Therapeutic Mentor

We are looking for grounded, emotionally aware mentors who are committed to walking alongside others. This role is highly active and relational, supporting individuals to develop social, emotional and life skills through nature-based and experience-driven sessions. You’ll help participants engage in their goals using hiking, movement, creativity, mindfulness or other community-based activities.


Sessions often take place outdoors but can also occur in-home, in the community, or online depending on the individual’s needs. You will work closely with the broader therapeutic team to deliver consistent, strengths-based support, especially for vulnerable clients in OOHC and DCJ care. A key focus of the role is actively working on client goals and supporting carers or home environments to reset and achieve these goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-on-one or small-group mentoring sessions in outdoor or community-based environments, and where appropriate, in-home or online.

  • Build trust-based, trauma-informed relationships with clients of all ages, including children and young people in OOHC and DCJ care.

  • Use activity-based approaches (e.g. bushwalking, ball games, cooking, art, or shopping) to support emotional regulation, social development, and functional skills.

  • Work collaboratively with therapists, carers, and support workers to align with therapeutic and NDIS goals, with a strong focus on progressing client goals and supporting home environments to reinforce these outcomes.

  • Promote safety, autonomy, confidence and connection in all mentoring interactions.

  • Document session notes, reflections and progress in line with organisational and NDIS requirements.

  • Participate in supervision, training and reflective practice as part of a supportive team culture.

Qualifications, Experience & Requirements

  • Certificate IV or above in Youth Work, Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or similar.

  • Previous experience supporting young people and/or clients with trauma, neurodiversity, disability or social-emotional challenges.

  • Understanding of OOHC/DCJ systems and child-safe practices.

  • Ability to work safely in natural and dynamic environments.

  • Knowledge of person-centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.

Mandatory Checks

  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) – NSW

  • National Police Check (issued within past 12 months)

  • First Aid & CPR Certification

  • Current driver’s licence and access to a safe, roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in ecotherapy, adventure therapy, outdoor education, or youth work

  • Familiarity with NDIS systems and inclusive practice
